Foust Elementary Book Drive

On December 18th, right before Winter Break, me and some friends hosted a book drive at Foust Elementary. We collected tons of books for these kids and through out the morning kids came with their classes to the media center and picked out a book to take home. It was great seeing just how happy these kids were to get these books. It didn't seem like much to us but you could tell to some of those kids it was everything. One of the librarians even told us that for some of the children there, the book they picked is the only gift they will receive this holiday season. Hearing that really made me realize just how fortunate I am. It was truly an honor spending the morning at Faust and meeting some amazing kids! Included are some pictures we took that morning!
This adorable little girl is a student at Foust and was very excited to get a book, almost as excited as I was to be able to meet her.

In between classes we stopped to take a picture with all the books. It was amazing to see just how many books we raised and were able to give to these kids.

Kernodle Middle School

About twice every month I go to Kernodle, my former middle school, and volunteer there for an hour after school. I help one of my former teachers host meetings for Kernodle's Yearbook Club As I am in yearbook at Grimsley and have participated in it since I was in middle school, I love being able to help them. Mainly I meet with the eigth grade editors and help them decide on layouts as well as proof read and give them advice on pages. I also help the 6th and 7th graders with taking pictures, writing captions, and putting pictures on pages. On June 8th, they received their yearbooks and I helped them with distribution. It was exciting see how all the hard work put into the yearbook payed off as all the students loved the books! We even had so many students love them, that the following morning we sold extra books to kids who hadn't originally planned on buying one. The 2014-2015 book was definitely a success and I can't wait to continue volunteering at Kernodle and seeing the new ideas they have for their yearbook next year.

Here's a picture of all the kids on yearbook distribution day.
