BMX: 2014 Maple Leaf Nationals

September 19-21, was the Maple Leaf Nationals in Milton, ON, Canada. The 12 hour drive was full of adventure and was definitely long and full of firsts. The race was a three day national level race. Friday and Saturday were both long days of racing and although it was cold, the weather was perfect for some good racing. However Sunday the weather was not on our side. We had rain delays that had rain delays, no one thought we'd get the race in. But sure enough five hours late and only competing through the first obstacle and only racing qualifying rounds and we finally got the race in, somehow! Although i did not get the best scores my weekend did consist of some notable finishes including a couple of podium finishes against other nationally ranked riders. On the way home we even got to stop by Niagara Falls which was beyond beautiful. As it was my first time racing in a different country, as well as my first time racing on hay, I would definitely say it was an unforgettable experience.

Here are some pictures from the weekend!

Friday, the first race day with the only other racers from NC, ready to begin the weekend!

Me and one of my friends from Indiana, Kylie, during the rain delay Sunday.

The U.S. girls with one of the Canadians (far right) waiting to race! We are all really good friends off the track, on the tracks a different story.

Racing going down Sunday on hay. Who said hay was just for horses.

Post-hay race picture! Definitely a first for everyone. North Carolina was definitely represented well in Canada.

Me at Niagara Falls, great way to end a long weekend of racing.

Picture I took at Niagara Falls. It's even prettier in person. Definitely hope to go back some day and was by far my favorite part of the trip.
